It is easier for you to hold a camcorder than camera for a long period of time 3) most camera has limit of length for the video function, while camcorder can keep recording until battery ran outif budget is your concern, get a creative Vado HD, it is cost less than $100 and record HD video....Show more

Lynn Mctier: 1 battery will last longer#2 the sound and vision quality will be better#3 its easier to store the video..on disc tape.#4 spare tapes or discs can be carried#5 they are more robust...

Marion Wieboldt: 1. Better codec. just try finding a video editor that can read a file from the $100 camera2. Zoom, including zoom while shooting and recording audio3. Tracking auto focus that adjusts continually while shooting. with the cheap camera if the subject moves, it goes out of focus and stays! blurry.4. Stereo audio and better or no audio compression5. longer continuous shooting time. a cheap camera usually can only shoot until its internal buffer memory fills, about 20 to 40 seconds or it has to be set at an unusually slow frame rate, like 15 fps.6. more comfortable to hold. it is nearly impossible to hold a stills camera steady which is why it needs a flash indoors and high speed shutter outdoors.7. speaking of flash a camcorder can shoot indoors in low light without flash. making it less dissruptive at ceremonies. 8. some $400 camcorders offer timecode that you can reference later for editing, including all miniDV types. 9. most $400 camcorders offer auto tracing white balance, so if a shoot starts indoors and move out, all the people don't turn green. white balance on a stills camera does not adjust after the start of the shoot.10. more impressive, a $100 camera will always make you look like a cheapskate....Show more

Sharron Salin: yeah, what the othe! r person said. the $100 camera you say is probably a point and! shoot and doesn't take very good quality video, especially in low light. a camcorder likeley will be sold to you bundled with a good carrying case, spare battery (and the batteries last longer because they are made for something that will be shooting video for a while.), and a disc/tape or two. though most now i think use small hard disk drives or flash memory. check out the specs on different ones and see what has the features you need. make sure it has an expansion slot for a memory card also....Show more
