The ships that were converted to carriers were victory ships the difference between the two types was that liberty ships had piston steam engines and victory ships had steam turbines. The turbine was a much more efficient and smoother running engine and was usually faster.

Will Camus: I'm not sure. Most of those were out of service when I served.We u! sed what we carried. We had the Captain's gig, a fiberglass bo! at about 20 ft long. We also ran a couple of the Ship's landing boats. The SEALs had their Boston Whalers. What boats got used depended on where we were. Sometimes, it was a commercial boat pulled up alongside.
