Ronnie Sardi: In the 1900 to 1939 range, many Americans in the United States lived on farms or in farming communities. They ate what they grew or traded for: meat, beef, pork, chicken, and fish they caught. They ate lots of milk and dairy because they had their own cows/goats/sheep. Lots of fresh fruit in season, and home canned out of season. The kitchen garden was full of beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, potatoes,and varieties according to location, i.e., in California, there might be a lemon or orange tree. They baked their own bread. If they lived in the cities, they ate their ethnic diet. Diets during World War II (1941 to 1945) were changed by rationing food. Meat, milk, and sugar were highly rationed so the soldiers got the most.1970 to 1990 began the modern diet of processed foods, additives, and the notion that taking a vitamin or supplement will cure all your ills, when what is needed is more variety of fresh foods in the diet.
