Cletus Makler: I'm bi-racial and I can tell you that in both the African American and Latino cultures color is a big thing. In African Americans it stems from slavery where lighter slaves were used in the house and darker slaves used in the fields. Being half white meant that you were prettier.I'm not sure how it got started in the Latino culture, but I know from experience that the color matters. My cousin is as white a Mexican that you can imagine with yellow undertones. Stan Conley: Does light skin blacks have it easier than dark skin black?Sometimes they do but not always. Because of the idea of white supremacy some people see lighter skin as being closer to white but at the same time the black community sometimes hates on light skinned person. Do black men prefer light skin black women over dark skinned women? I really don't know because most of the guys I have dated have been white, a couple were asian but very few were black. Maybe the reason that I haven't dated black guys is because my skin tone isn't necessarily light. If you had a choice would you rather be light skinned or dark skinned? I would rather be ! any tone that would give me an even skin tone(which I personally don't ! have. My skin tone usually ranges from the darker side of light skinned to average tone so I guess light skinned because I am more used to that skinned tone. But at the same time most people(especially non blacks) are more likely to compliment a beautiful dark skinned girl than a beautiful light skinned girl because they expect it less and in my opinion darker skin is more pretty....Show more
