Tatiana Evanosky: I have no experience professionaly to answer this, I'm just sharing my thoughts. I think it depends on the person. Drinking non-alcohlic beer might make a weaker person want to drink anything. It might torture them. But someone really set in their ways and determined to take control, but just likes the taste of beer, might be able to keep it at the non-alcoholic beer. Ask yourself if this person has addictive tendancies. If they lose control easily. IDK, just my opinion. Hope I can help a little....Show more
Hal Rouse: Non alcoholic beer has a small amount of aclohol in it, but not enough to trigger an alcoholic into a relapse - though the taste might be a temptation to move on to real beer.As for those saying alcoholics shouldn't be in a bar, around beer, or around drinkers, RUBBISH.Often the best way to get over a problem is to face up to it, proving to yourself you can be in a bar, and not drink, can be the best thing for some alcoholics....Show! more
Jodie Capella: A friend of mine quit drinking several years ago and every now & then he'll drink a non-alcoholic beer because he misses the taste of it. He's still sober after at least 5 years.
Terresa Tsasie: This is just an opinion, I don't have any sources or anything. But personally I think that as long as the recovering alcoholic has their mind set on recovery and a significant amount of self control so they wont be sent spiraling out of control by just the taste of it. Then it would be a bit like a nicotine patch for a smoker. But just to be safe I'd be around someone who wont let the recovering alcoholic drink during their first time trying to drink a non alcoholic beer, just in case it acts as a trigger and the recovering alcoholic wants something real....Show more
Delmy Varano: Non alcoholic beer will not get you drunk and is safe. However there is a mindset among people in AA that any amount of alcohol will trigger your allergy. This is wh! ere I disagree my qualifications? Well i was a very heaver dri! nker and was sent to AA in 1991. I did not fit in because I did not believe I was powerless and I did not think I needed god to keep me sober. I said I abused alcohol because I chose to that got me in trouble because according to them the alcoholic has no choice in the matter. In the AA group I was in every person with lots of sobriety had a nick or story one guy said his allergy to alcohol was so bad that he could not even use deodorant because the alcohol in it caused him to get drunk. One man not in my group but who I see online from time to time says he cannot eat cheese cake or he will get drunk because of the alcohol. If you are in AA then you will be pressured not to drink non alcoholic beer or they will accuse you of not being sober and that may cause you to go back to drinking. I had to leave AA and was abstinent for 17 years it has been 3 years now that I have started drinking moderately. In AA this is impossible to do. Anyway my point is yes it is safe but if yo! u are in AA or if you believe it is dangerous then stay away from it. Personally I do not like them and if I ever decide I need to not drink i will just not drink. If you are in AA it is better to not drink these because of the pressure you will receive. I would wake up not even think about drinking and not want to drink then attend a meeting and the nonsense I had to endure cause me to go home wanting a drink bad....Show more
Marty Tichnell: I'm what some folks call a "recovered alcoholic" although I don't use the term myself. Suffice it to say that I quit drinking a long time ago, don't drink any more, and don't take any chances on starting up again. Now to your question. There are indeed trace amounts of alcohol in NA beer. However, there are also trace amounts of alcohol in orange juice that's sat in the fridge for a couple of days. In Dijon Mustard. In lots of things. You can't go around freaking out because of these minute amounts, or you'll go crazy, and t! hey are harmless. The problem with drinking NA beer isn't really the alc! ohol; rather, the problem is that, for some people, it can trigger a desire to drink the real thing. Therefore, it's probably best to stay away from it, particularly if the person in question is still tempted to drink. The temptation does fade, by the way, over time. People seem to think that it's a daily struggle for people to stay sober, but after the first couple of years I really haven't had any trouble....Show more
Armanda Hertel: NA beer actually has way less alcohol than Nyquil. And most doctors say an occasional glass of wine for a pregnant woman is ok. So I would think you'd be fine. But maybe better safe than sorry ? You know you're safe if you stick to the sparkling cider.
Trena Berum: yes there is a bit of alcohol in those non alcohol beers! it says it on some bottles. also its just not safe, thats a quick way to go into relapse
Whitley Leopold: Is it good to be in a bar? Not really. If you put cheesecake in front of a dieter, they will th! ink just one piece won't hurt.... but they end up eating the whole thing.Standard therapy says stay away. Catholic priest will tell you to avoid things with tempt you until you know your resolve.I have not heard any stats on the non's having alcohol content. Speaking from years of living with alcohol and drug addition, stay away, and get new friends. That's the only way to stay sober, change your life... is to change your life, friends, and habits....Show more
